The place
The Torridon stands on the shore of a sea loch in Wester Ross, built in 1887 as a Victorian shooting lodge and run since 2004 by Daniel and Rohaise Rose-Bristow, whose family has held it since 1993. Fifty-eight acres run down to the water under the Torridon mountains, with the estate's own Highland cattle and pigs on the land. It bills itself as Scotland's most northerly five-star hotel, and it is family-owned and lived-in rather than managed at a distance.
The table and the bar
The dining room, 1887, holds three AA Rosettes and took its first Michelin star in early 2026, cooking a tasting menu under head chef Danny Young. The bar is the other draw: 365 whiskies, one for every day of the year, plus more than a hundred gins and the house Arcturus. The Stables handles the casual side with the Bo and Muc brasserie.
The stay
Eighteen rooms and suites in the main lodge, more in the Stables, and a self-catering boathouse at the loch edge. This is Highland country-house hospitality at its most genuine: remote, family-run, and built around the loch, the mountains and the malt rather than a spa brochure.
